This pair was the first one I caught arriving back. They seem to be the most active pair. I am not sure if the nest survived from the winter and they just add to it, or if they had to start anew. I only just started exploring this area of the river.
The male is arriving back at the nest. This nest is far away, so these images are taken with a zoom lens and heavily cropped.
The above photo was yesterday. This is the first time I saw both hang out for a long time in the nest. Could there be eggs yet? It was a warmer spring day with little to no winds. Get out and enjoy the first signs of spring.

One closest osprey to me is more skittish around people. No one knows it where it’s nest is it appears. I’ve seen it kayaking in years passed. This pair it seems likes to ham it up for people and put on a show.

Osprey nests often look kind of flimsy. Let’s hope this one is well built and will safely harbor some young ones.

It is odd what they grabbed to be part of the nest. There are what looks to be plastic bags and a large moving strap.

They definitely use what they think might be helpful, but I worry that the young birds will nibble on the plastic bags, which can’t be healthy. It’s a very sad statement about the state of plastic pollution–it’s everywhere and in everything, and humans are suffering from the consequences also.

We have a time maybe once a year where kayakers clean up the shores. They also have days where scouts and other groups have clean up days. I try to pick up things I see floating when I kayak. Too much though is left along water bodies. I worry about the kids getting tangled in it in the future.
