I stopped on my way home from work again at a park on the Hudson River. I arrived to see this young eagle in a tree eating a fish. Next, I hope to see it catch one. I just missed it again.
He had to look all around as other young eagles, adult eagles and vultures were circled around overhead.
There was quite a bit of overhead traffic. I think they needed an air traffic controller.
I am guessing the adult eagle was circling to make sure they did not get to close to the young eagle and the vultures were interested in that fish. I am guessing this may be a 2nd year eagle. What do you think?

Maybe they don’t have all the fear of danger yet. At another nearby park on the river they fly away before you even know they are in the tree that’s in front of you.

Always fun to watch Eagles, young and old. Spent a lot of time photographing them hunt the mighty Mississippi. The are large enough that most other birds will not challenge them after a successful grab, but the task is clearly getting back to a safe perch to enjoy the spoils as the other Eagles tend to pose a challenge. Love the shots of the immature looking around protecting its “precious”!

The osprey and eagles here will try to steal from each other. Eagle on eagle stealing seems to start in the nest. The babies will at times steal from each other.

It is! There really was a lot of birds flying overhead. At one point an adult eagle landed on a nearby tree.

That’s so exciting. I can only imagine how happy you are to be able to photograph them. I know that I’m happy you get to do it and share them with all of us. 🙂

I’ve wanted to go to this location for years. I decided it was not that far off my route going home from work so this year is a go. I just wish I went earlier when there was ice on the river.

Better a fish than another bird in my mind. Avian flu is an issue here and dead geese , chickens etc. are being found.
