Some people go to the county fair to go on the rides. Some go for the food or vendors. I go mainly to see the animals. One event I do not want to miss is Dock Dogs.

Just like humans have competitions at the fair in 4H raising animals, baking pies, and doing artwork, dogs have their events. One of the Dock Dog events at the fair is one in which the owners throw an object, the dogs run the length of a long dog to go after it, and they are judged by how far they jump off the dock before they land in the water.

Focused Brown Dog
This dog just seemed so focused on the task and serious. I had to include several images of him.

Frisbee Dog

County Fairs have a lot to see. If you have not been to one in a while, make sure you visit one next year.
What fun photos Sharon. And the dogs are really athletes.

There was one or two new to the sport that the crowd had to encourage to jump in the pool by yelling “Jump” over and over. I love seeing this event at the fair.

Some of those sweet pups got some air! Great photos. I would’ve gone for the dogs, but I do love fair food. It’s the kind of stuff that I wouldn’t touch anywhere else, but man it’s good.

I had an excellent chicken empanada and Mexican Street Corn. They had all kinds of food there, some American staples and other ethnic foods, even food trucks. The biggest draw seems to be the milk shake booth made from local milk.

I would’ve definitely gotten the street corn and a milkshake! It sounds so fun.

They also have the usual: fried Oreos, popcorn etc.

Great shots Sharon! I went twice this year (Thursday and Sunday) with my grandkids. On Thursday, despite downpours, we watched the practice and were treated to the sight of one owner walking backwards as she coaxed her recalcitrant jumper toward the edge. Whether it was the slippery conditions or a miscalculation on her part, she ended up falling into the pool while her dog stood at the edge, head cocked, wondering what she wanted him to do! She was a great sport and the hardcore onlookers who were drenched by the rain gave her a standing ovation!

There were a couple of dogs new to the sport on Saturday. The crowd had to repeated encourage them by yelling jump. It is fun to watch. For some of the dogs it is just fun. For other dogs they look like they are taking it quite seriously and know its a competition. One dog ran to the end of the dock to look over the pool, then ran to the other end of the dock to wait for its owner to give the signal.

I know they are having fun too! Dogs usually seem ADHD. It is hard to get them to look at you when you try to take their picture. I guess you have to find what gets their focus.
