They say the colours were not brilliant this year. I had a three day weekend and decided to visit the Adirondacks regardless and get some hiking and kayaking in. I was there for a day and a half. The following pictures I took whilst kayaking Mirror Lake in Lake Placid on the morning I left to return home.
Get out and enjoy the outdoors even if they say the conditions will not be optimal. You will appreciate it anyways.

The boathouse? I love it. The bottom floor appears to be boat storage area and the top a living area. It’s small but I wouldn’t mind staying there. They have herons, different kinds of ducks and loons.

There is a reason I keep going up there. So many lakes and ponds, so many trails, so little time. It’s one of my happy places. That whole region is great. Most have no idea the beauty in this state.

You are right. the colors are very muted this year. Last year was an amazing blaze. But what ever the color level – fall is a wonderful season. just way too hot for my liking this year.

I think that is changing tonight. If it’s too hot for your liking go up to the ADK. Many times it is 10 degrees cooler during the day and much cooler at night. I was wearing fleece while kayaking.
