What are the COVID rules for eating out in NYC? If you want to eat inside a restaurant you need to show proof of vaccination. Otherwise, you can order take out or it appears eat outside. A lot of restaurants in NYC have built outdoor structures to accommodate diners for distancing.
Many have plants to give diners more privacy and to make the space more eye appealing. Many have roofs and or windows.
If you are coming to NYC, be aware of the rules. You can only eat inside if you are fully vaccinated. Come out and support these local restaurants. Many others did not survive the lockdowns.

Thanks for the info! One of the good things that came out of this pandemic is that restaurants are allowed to use the sidewalks more freely. I love these pergolas and little roomes. Hopefully they get to keep it once this is all over.

I believe they said in July (last month) that they were extending the ability of restaurants to have outdoor structures on the streets for another year.

It’s all very enterprising and imaginative and thoughtful and all those good things. But with Delta stalking even the vaccinated…does it make sense?

I have heard of fully vaccinated getting it. I keep a distance from people. However, they did say only 1.5 percent of the cases in NY were transmitted in a restaurant. You have to be more concerned wit public transportation and other close quarter activities. Over 85 percent get it from family gatherings- usually in a home or large group gatherings.

I will say it’s nice having social distancing in NYC restaurants, before it felt like we were eating with whoever was sitting next to us.

Some places get crowded. Two British pubs I liked are still temporarily closed according to their website. I hope they return. One of them definitely gets crowded dinner time. I hope the sidewalk seating goes on past the additional year.
