Maine Christmas Wreath Booth

I came across this lovely little shed or booth where you could buy a wreath. It was outside a town, so I can’t remember exactly where, but it is near the Maine coast.

It is a lovely little display, don’t you think? I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Metal Lobster Trap Christmas Trees

The modern lobster traps are made of metal. They are used today because the are more durable. Metal traps are better at handling salt water erosion, they are lighter, and can be stacked more easily. These are two examples of lobster trap trees made with metal traps.

The above tree was I believe outside a seafood shop in Kennebunkport.

Metal Lobster Trap Christmas Trees – Cape Porpoise

I believe the above tree is in the Cape Porpoise area of Kennebunkport outside a family house. Could the owner be a lobster fisherman? Have a super Saturday!

Wooden Lobster Trap Trees

Different locations bring their own culture and traditions into how they celebrate Christmas. Maine incorporates its fishing industry into its holiday displays. Lobster trap Christmas trees are part of displays in different towns.

Wooden Lobster Trap Trees – Cape Porpoise, Maine

The ones I am focusing on this post are the ones made of the old style wooden lobster traps. They are stacked up like a tree. Then decorated with buoys, lights, and or greenery. Personally I love the ones that combine the greenery with red buoys. The ones above and below use a lobster image as a tree topper.

It sounds like the lobster trap tree tradition was initiated in Gloucester, Massachusetts first in 2001 and the idea spread to other towns in New England. Many times these trees are community organised with local lobstermen lending the traps for the displays.

Wooden Lobster Trap Trees- Ogunquit, Maine

This last tree is my favourite because of the views around it. This one is at the Beachmere Inn. It is topped with a starfish. The Beachmere has a great restaurant with views of this tree and the ocean. You can eat lunch or dinner and enjoy this view when sitting near the windows.

What do you think of this tradition? I hope you had a Merry Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year.

Vintage Christmas Truck 2025

This was a vintage Ford truck I saw in front of an old stone farmhouse. It appears to be a Ford F-3 pick-up truck.

The First Generation F-3’s appear to be sold from 1948-1952. I did play with the colour between the two images.

Have a splendid Sunday!

Elf on a Shelf Shenanigans

According to one definition, shenanigans can be a high-spirited or mischievous activity. Here the elf is pushing Bumble in a pint sized shopping cart.

What shenanigans are you up to? With all the Covid, flu, and other viruses being passed around, I hope all are healthy. Have a fabulous Friday!

Merry Christmas Lion

These are the lions outside the NY Public Library Main Branch on the corner of 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. It actually takes up a city block between 42nd Street and 41st Street.

Behind the library is Bryant Park. Grand Central Station is a short walk away.

Merry Christmas Lion

In Christianity the Lion is a symbol of the coming of Jesus and strength. In Revelation 5:5 it says “behold the Lion of the tribe of Judah the root of David, has conquered so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” So it is kind of fitting they incorporated a wreath onto a lion into their holiday decoration.

Merry Christmas Lion

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it. I understand this year the first night of Hanukkah starts on Christmas. Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate it! Happy Kwanza!

Around Bryant Park Thanksgiving Eve

I had to hit a store after work on the night before Thanksgiving. On the way back to the Grand Central I stopped by Brant Park. Manhattan was very crowded and Brant Park was no exception.

Around Bryant Park Thanksgiving Eve – different kind of holiday lights

Brant Park has an ice skating rink, which I could not get close to, and a nice little Christmas Market with many vendor booths set up in sheds. Here are some of the things that caught my eye that I could get a photo of.

The North Pole Express tour bus picks up on 42nd Street, the street bordering the north side of the park. I hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving.

Fishkill Doors

I found some more doors! This time in Fishkill, New York. Many of these doors may be newer ones, but they have character. They also have nice wreath displays.

Fishkill Doors – with a wreath that is unique
Fishkill Doors – this family totally renovated this old house over the past few years
Fishkill Doors- the Old Dutch Church built in 1725. It was used as a prison during the Revolutionary War
Fishkill Doors -I believe this house had several nice things as a part of the display spread out across the porch. The husband came out and said the wife does these displays herself.
Fishkill Doors – These doors look original.
Fishkill Doors – more likely a modern one
Fishkill Doors – cemetery chapel I am not sure how old this building is.

It is very hard for me to pick a favourite. They are all good in their own way. The first four are a four way tie first place for me. What do you think?

It was another dark and dreary day in a sea of dark and dreary days. Still trying to get out regardless. The walking trails in the woods are far too muddy to traverse. Don’t count out days that do not cooperate weather wise! Have a happy and safe New Year!

Red Hook Doors

I love old doors. I went on a short trip through Red Hook, New York and some of the old doors stood out to me with their Christmas greens. Included are a few I saw.

Red Hook Doors- My favourite- Unfortunately I could not get too close. I took this from the sidewalk and there was a bush in front of the view.
Red Hook Doors- single door
Red Hooks Doors- Houses with 2 doors had two wreaths
Red Hook Doors- Double Door Double Wreath

The weather has been very uncooperative this week. We have had dark skies and rain. Seeing the decorations has been a highlight. My favourite is the first one. Which one is yours?

Grinch House

Took some family on a ride on some streets in another county that were said to have good displays. One house stood out for me. It was the house that was made to look like Grinch. (I took the photo with my phone).

Grinch House

This Grinch House light display came complete with his dog. The windows are his eyes. The attic window is his hat. The door appears to be his nose. They are making him smile. Have you seen any unique decorations on your travels this year?
