Common Moorhens are medium sized water birds. Other names it could be known as are marsh hens, common gallinule (this may be a close relation), or skitty coot. I saw these birds in some of the royal parks in London.

It has long, green-yellowish legs that resemble something more reptilian. It is close in appearance to an American Coot. One of the main differences is the Moorhen has a red and yellow beak while the coot has a white one.

Have a great week!
I can see the coot reference but a mu h more colourful bill. Have a good evening Sharon. Allan

Definitely does! The royal park actually had coots as well. We had coots summer 2023 in NY as well. They are not usually in our area. I think with the fires in Canada they decided to stay here instead.

We still had lots of coots in our area. Their babies are so ugly, they are coot.

Ha! I know I have pictures of moorhen babies from England. There were moorhens on nest sitting duty in early July there. Not sure if I have any coot ones. They are faces a mother would love!

Such large feet. I love the white feathers peeking out. Beautiful photographs of beautiful birds.

Sometimes it seems the European species are more colorful. Blue beaks, red and yellow beaks. Fun.

The kingfisher in England is much more colorful than the one we see in NY.

I really like the fact that their beaks are red and yellow.
