Short-Eared Owl Night Flight

I stopped in this location after work to see if I could catch some action. It was not too windy, although there was some clouds in the sky and not the greatest light. We did see them fly closer to us where we are allowed to stand.

The above photo is lightened a bit. It is hard to capture them when they come out. The grass is tall as this location, taller than me actually, and did not have a deep enough snowfall to force it down. Therefore, the grass interferes with focus. Not bad though for a dark evening.     1. I had a long period of going without seeing any close enough to get a shot. The place I go to they return to every year. Where you can stand is limited. It’s very rare if they come out during good light and close enough. Some of the retired people who are there everyday have been lucky enough to get shots in good light and close. I guess those days they came out around 2. We are limited on where we can stand. I am happy I have what I have but always hoping to see up close when there is good light.

  6. This is such a wonderful capture, especially given that short-eared owls fly somewhat erratically compared to other owls or birds of prey. They dash and dart about like a moth around a street lamp. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
