Short-Eared Owl on a Post

I decided to swing by the land I see these owls on before dark. It rained part of the day, but continued to look dark and dreary. The last two nights the owls only flew on the other end of the field. Tonight they flew closer. I was able to see them in flight, on a tree, and see one of the short-eared owls on a post.

The flight shots were grainy due to high ISO, but you cannot have everything.

I may try to go on the weekend, but luck has not been on my side on Saturdays or Sundays. The increase in the number of owl paparazzi on weekends keeps them at bay. Have a great weekend!

    1. It took a lot of days of far away sightings to see them up close. The key is I had this week off and there are less people there. 3 out of 5 weekdays I saw them within the range of the zoom lens. You have slim to none chance to see them on weekends. Happy weekend! Here’s hoping you see an owl.

    1. It was not ideal lighting conditions. The day was dark and dreary. It was the first time I have seen one perched on a post near to where we are allowed to stand. They mostly fly and land on the ground. Occasionally they land on trees, but mainly the ones on the far ends of the property, far from where we are allowed to stand. I have been going there several years and this is the first time I think I have seen this. The first year I went they would land on a big rock clump a lot. I think that was the only year they were stuck on that.
