Can a bird be this friendly? I came across this friendly bird on the start of a hiking trail on the Hudson River. It flew to a tree near where I was standing, quite close actually. It took me back.

I suspected someone was feeding the birds. A friend confirmed to me that was the case. She said they will land on someone’s hand if you have seed in it at this location.
I did not see many birds on my short kayak trip on the Hudson, but was surprised to see this bird so up close on the trail next to river. I guess the moral is explore many spots, you will experience something new.
That’s a very cute type of bird.. nice shots!

So, will you bring some seed next tome and a fisheye lens to photograph the little guy eating from your hand?

My complex just banned feeding birds. We had a bear come through last week. This is where I will bring the seed I have left. Don’t think I am coordinated enough to try to photograph one eating from my hand.

Titmice are so cute. They come to our feeders. The smallest bird species are the ones that are least afraid of people. Chickadees, white-breasted nuthatches and downy woodpeckers will sometimes land on the feeders while I’m filling them.

That’s cool! We had a bear go through my complex do bird feeding is now banned. I think the birds near my place are going to be ticked. Several of us had feeders. Yes the small birds seem least afraid. The cardinals especially are shy.

Yesterday I was standing near our feeders, talking to a woman who had stopped by. Her hair was up in a bun. A downy woodpecker left a feeder and flew so close to her that its wing hit her hair bun. She asked me, “Did a bird just fly into me?” I said, “Yup!” 😄

Maybe he thought she was a big woodpecker? Ha! Cool! They know who is good to them.

I have seen people in England get birds to land on their hand for seed. If the birds are around you enough and you feed them, evidently they do it. I hope to stop there in the future to try it. I think only certain birds will do it.

That’s really cool. I’d love to see/do that. We rescued 2 cats, who are very interested in birds, ha ha, so I had to put away our bird feeders. A few years ago, before cats, our feeders were loaded with some beautiful birds, Tufted Titmouse, too. Such fun to watch. And, a bear??? Oh my!

Thanks! The bird made it easy. Now I need to go back and feed it.
