Do you like surprises? It depends on what it is I guess. For almost week I saw one baby owl in the tree hole, so I thought there was only one. However, one day I arrived one was in a neighboring tree having most likely fledged that day, and one was looking out the hole. Later, another head popped next to the owl in the hole. So all in all there were three owlets.

Seeing three owlets was definitely a surprise and a good one at that. Be quiet on your walks through the woods. It is amazing what you can witness.
Wow! Amazing experience and great photos!

I feel very lucky and fortunate. I watched them by myself for almost a week before I told only a select few others. Don’t want hoards of people hunting them down. We want them to use the same tree nest next year. Don’t want to scare them off.

It made my last two weeks. The mother made herself known to me in the woods several times. The first time she flew right over my shoulder while I was walking on a trail. I kept seeing her hunting or hearing her on subsequent days in the same area. I followed the direction of her who one day and found the owlet before I found her.

Lighting in the woods has been a challenge.

They’re so sober looking that I can’t help thinking someone’s making fun of them.

Not me. Maybe the sibling who already made it out of the nest.
