These were taken on the Hudson River on a cloudy, November day near the time the sun would set. The people in the village I viewed him from named him Fraser. I was told he is there everyday. In a period of about 15-20 minutes I saw him catch four little fish. I am sure he will be flying south soon to a warmer locale. He may be the same bird I saw last year.

Magnificent birds, herons. Terrific pics too!

Thanks! I can never seem to catch them on sunny days.

Nice shots! I love the name they gave him. My husband and I once owned a home with a large pond and we had a resident heron that we named Bob. He was so much fun to watch. Thanks for helping me to recall that memory. 🙂

It’s dark when I get home so the only opportunity to try to find this bird is on the weekends when I have time. Unfortunately our weather in the weekends has not always cooperated. So cool you got a chance to see one. Did he stay all summer? When did he fly off?

Oh goodness, that was a number of years ago. I honestly don’t remember! 🙂

Iconic shot of the heron with his caught prey. That is not easy to do. Excellent! ❤️

Thanks! I have been trying to get close to one of these for a few years. I have seen a few at a distance and usually at around sunset. Bad light conditions aside, it was a treat.

It is hard to get close to blue herons. I have one shot of a heron that I didn’t even realize had just hooked a fish. It is a horribly out of focus shot but I keep it anyway. Maybe it’ll get sharper over time. 😂

Ha! We can only wish. Any time he stuck his head down I was snapping away hoping to catch something. This was the closest I have ever been to one. A person walking by with a dog did not bother him. The last one I saw on the river somewhere else flew off when someone came by with a dog.
