You could not miss this coyote. It walked across a busy road. It looked like it was following after something, but I never saw what that was. No, this is not in England. I took this tonight on my way home.

It is not the best image. It was at night after a rain storm in low light. I had my camera in its bag in the back seat. I had to pull off and take it out. I saw the coyote go into a business parking lot, so this is where it is in this image. Note to self: I need to have my camera in the front seat readily available.
The coyote looks very scruffy. Could this be the result of a disease? May it be the battle scars of fights with other animals? It did not look to weary of people. It actually left a popular rail trail and was in a business parking lot. It stood there letting me take a couple of pictures. Sometimes I wonder what tales an animal could tell. If I had known it was going to do that I would have set my camera to a 1/800 of a second instead of 1/2000. What do you think it’s story would be?
It has a very compelling face.

There are stories behind it I’m sure.

Oh dear! The poor thing looks as if he’s got some skin problem. Mange, maybe?

Good luck catching him to get help. Not sure a lot of rescues take them.

Did you ever read about this guy?

I like to imagine that he made it back to his home and said to his pals “You’re never gonna believe what happened!” Yours looks like it’s been through some things too.

Yikes! What a ride! I think they are hard to catch to help and only certain places take them as far as animal rescues go.

Not a well animal and not one you would like to cross paths with on foot. I think he knows his days are numbered.

No, I would not want to come across a coyote, wolf, or bear on any of my walks or kayak trips. I know not too many years ago outside NYC they had to lockdown schools because a suspected rabid coyote was randomly biting people on a rail trail, biking path. It walked off the path and near different schools. One case around the same time the coyote tried to pull a young child away from its mom in a park.

Why did the coyote cross the road.

To get the prey on the other side.

Definitely does not look well, likely mange of some sort and its willingness to engage in public places means it is disregarding its usual cautions. Let’s hope it will come out of it.

I think we are a lot more likely to hear a coyote here, albeit at 3 am than see one. I did see one at 6 or earlier one morning in late spring stalking a deer in a field. They would be hard to catch, but I was surprised this one posed for me at least for a few seconds.
