If a barred acts like it is sleeping, sometimes the birds leave it alone. Sometimes if I stand there and watch it for a while they leave it alone.
I guess the birds figure the owl will not try to hunt them while I am there. I have yet to see an owl catch a bird. I usually see them get chipmunks etc. Either the owl is either catching a very short nap or is pretending to sleep. I don’t know if you would call this a cat nap. Would you?

These guys always seem so sleepy, but a mouse should never take that for certain. We saw a pair in Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver and they were watching it all. Have a good night Sharon. Allan

This time of year they have mouths to feed, so they power nap during the day. If they detect movement they will take advantage. Glad you were able to see a pair. Have a good night!

Probably one of the few restful times it gets in a day – looks so peaceful, but I am sure it has its guard up just in case.
