Short-Eared Owl on the Ground

The short-eared owl was in a new spot tonight. I am convinced it is the same owl every time one lands on posts etc. This time it landed on the ground next to the parking lot. The wind had picked up and it settled there for a long time looking to be in a not so happy mood. They do not seem to like winds above 10 miles an hour.

Short Eared Owl on the Ground

Yes, I felt the earthquake today. I was on the third floor of my workplace. The building shook for about 20 seconds or so, the floor seemed to shake, and there was a rumbling noise. I was surprised it was only a 4.8, but there appears only be some minor damage in places such as cracks on walls and water in basements. I did not feel any of the aftershocks. The were less intense. The one most likely to be felt I think occurred around 6 p.m., but I was watching this owl by then and was further away. Have a great weekend.

  1. So glad that you’re ok after the earthquake….by the look on the owl’s face, he’s not too pleased about the earthquake either! LOL! (GREAT shot)!

    1. Lucky I felt none of the aftershocks. I was watching him during the biggest one and did not feel it far north of the city so it might not have felt it. Ground is soft here. Some I think are planning to be there for the eclipse because they think it might wake up confused and fly early.

    1. I was sitting in my office room by myself. It was hard not to notice with the rumbling and shaking in my building. I know many in cars did not feel it. Some on the George Washington Bridge said it seemed like the cars were swaying etc on the bridge.Everyone got quiet on my hallway when it’s usually buzzing with noise.

  2. It’s great to see some of the details that aren’t visible when the owl is flying.

I hope you have recovered from the shock of the earthquake, so to speak. It’s always disconcerting to experience a tremor.
