Hawk Opening Act

The main attraction at one place I visit is short eared owls. I usually can only go during the weekend. Too many people are there then, so the owls do not come close to the areas you are allowed to stand while visiting. Occasionally, on a weekday they may come close to the photographers. However, so far I have only been able to stop by on one day during the weekends. Luckily this hawk has started to entertain us. I think it either wants to know what the fuss is, or it is a diva. The hawk seems to be saying, “Look at Me!”

Hawk Opening Act

I believe it is a red -tailed hawk. It is obliging and lands on trees, buildings, and posts. Sometimes the opening acts are better than the main show. Don’t discount them.

  1. So for some “trips” I want to make I check the weather forecast hoping for a grouping of days with the weather I want, sunny, some clouds, warm, etc. Then pick a day to go. Seems to me one might be able to schedule a personal day along those lines and pack a lunch and just hang out in a park, preserve from just before sunrise to sunset. Life could be worse than enjoying nature and being outside all day. Just sayin’. 🤫🤫🫣🤭

    1. Hard to take days off. People kind of ruin it on the weekend. They are loud in the parking lot, loud in others areas. It would be like winning the lottery to see them on the weekend. When I first started coming here more trails were open. They closed more and more every year because visitors, mostly weekend ones went off the trails into the fields or ignored the closed trail signs. Th we n last year people ignored the rules and fought over the blinds. So they removed the blinds. With less trails open and more people in one area it’s almost impossible now.
