Great Blue Heron

These were taken on the Hudson River on a cloudy, November day near the time the sun would set. The people in the village I viewed him from named him Fraser. I was told he is there everyday. In a period of about 15-20 minutes I saw him catch four little fish. I am sure he will be flying south soon to a warmer locale. He may be the same bird I saw last year.

Tiny fish in his mouth
Got one
The fish fought for his life, but the heron won.
Off to a better fishing hole

  1. Nice shots! I love the name they gave him. My husband and I once owned a home with a large pond and we had a resident heron that we named Bob. He was so much fun to watch. Thanks for helping me to recall that memory. 🙂

      1. It is hard to get close to blue herons. I have one shot of a heron that I didn’t even realize had just hooked a fish. It is a horribly out of focus shot but I keep it anyway. Maybe it’ll get sharper over time. 😂

      2. Ha! We can only wish. Any time he stuck his head down I was snapping away hoping to catch something. This was the closest I have ever been to one. A person walking by with a dog did not bother him. The last one I saw on the river somewhere else flew off when someone came by with a dog.
